Football………….football……………football

Just a wee reminder about this weeks’ football tournament on Saturday and Sunday at Rothesay Joint Campus.  The under 18’s are on the Saturday and the older ones on the Sunday anyone wishing to take part can get an entry form from the Help project in Victoria Street.  Hopefully the weather will stay good and it will be an enjoyable weekend.

The bookings are now coming in for November and December, and are filling up quite quickly, it really doesn’t matter what the weather is like, Calums Cabin is a haven no matter what it’s like outside, allowing families time away together.

Thank you to everyone for making Calums Cabin possible and for continuing to support the cause.

Postcode Challange

There is a lot to update this week:

Firstly a wee reminder of the football tournament that is taking place at Rothesay Joint Campus on Saturday 3rd and Saturday 4th September, the Saturday is for the younger footballers and the Sunday for the older ones.  It is a lot larger than last year and the teams are fighting over themselves to be part, we have teams coming from the mainland, it really looks as if it will be a great weekend.  Thank you to everyone who is involved in organising the day and sponsoring the trophies and medals.  Application forms are available from the Help Project in Victoria Street.

We are in the midst of planning another Physic evening, hopefully at the end of October with Magenta the woman in black coming again, together with many new other physics.  More details in the coming weeks.

John Amabile last week was asked onto celebrity Postcode Challange, and nominated Calums Cabin as the chosen charity.  This is great because it will again increase the amount the individuals that know about Calums Cabin, filming took place on Friday of last week, and will be shown in the New Year.

Thank you all again.

Bonus Balls

Due to exceptional circumstances three bonus balls have become available.  If you are interested in paying £1 per week to support Calums Cabin and having the possibility of winning £25 per week, simply go into Printpoint and see Karen and she will allocate you a number and you can get started.  Thank you to all our other 46 supporters who pay their £1’s weekly.

It has come to our notice that collections on behalf of Calums Cabin have been taking place and the monies haven’t been arriving.  Can we please ask that monies are only given to individuals who have an actual Calums Cabin collecting can and are fully authorised to collect.  Thank you also to the individuals who brought this to the attention of Jenna, Duncan and myself.

Thank you also to everyone who contacted us after the showing of Songs of Praise, your support is very much appreciated.

Good Luck this week to everyone who is fundraising at the weekend, whether it be sponsored walks, runs or swims across Loch Striven……..thank you all.

Finally, another wee reminder about the football tournament that is being run in conjunction with the Help Project on 4th and 5th September. Details are available from the help project, this year it is being run slightly differently, the under 18’s, are playing in a tournament on the Saturday and the older ones on the Sunday, application forms and details are from The Help project in Victoria Street.

What a busy week

Thank you to everyone who came on the Waverley on Saturday, although on the outward journey the rain did appear, the sail back from Tighnabruaich was superb.  Thank you also to Waverley excursions for allowing us another sail, and splitting the ticket price with us.  I hope all of you who came enjoyed it as much too.

Thank you also to everyone who supported us at our book stall on Sunday at the car boot sale, it was great to meet so many people and I hope you all enjoy your read!!

This Sunday, 8th August, Calums Cabin features on Songs of Praise, so if you get a chance please watch, cause it isn’t just Caums Cabin, but Bute and the community as a whole who feature, including Rothesay Join Campus.  What a great piece of publicity for the Island.  The team from Songs of Praise were just lovely and I am sure they will show the Island at it’s best.

Thank you all again

Firstly a sorry for all my blog readers, I have been having problems with the internet and the computer, therefore the blogs have been late, not at all or in this weeks case early, hopefully now we should be back on track, sorry again.

Sailing On The Waverley

Just a wee reminder about the sailing on the Waverley on Saturday 31st July, around the Kyles of Bute, priced at £12, for adults and £6 for children, available from Prinpoint or from Duncan and myself.  Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Sadly this week we heard that someone who had stayed at Calums Cabin last year lost their battle, our thoughts go out to the family and to all the families that have stayed at the cabin and subsequently lost their child/brother/sister.  We just hope that the time and memories that were made and had at Calums Cabin will in a small way help them on some of their dark days.  Thank you all.

Enjoy a sail around the Kyles

We have again teamed up this year with the Waverley to offer Calums Cabin supporters a chance to sail through the Kyles of Bute at a reduced rate of £12 for adults and half price for children £6, the date that has been chosen is Saturday 31st July, leaving Rothesay pier at 1.40 and returning 4.40pm, anyone who took the opportunity last year I am sure will sing the praises of the Waverley, it is a lovely afternoon out.  Tickets are available from Printpoint at the corner of Bishop Street, up to the time of sailing.  If bought on board, the full prices will need to be paid, so better to get them before hand.

Calums Cabin is now full until November this year, and we have just received an email from Yorkhill describing the feedback that they receive from families who have stayed at Calums cabin, this is all only possible because of everyones support, thank you all.

I hope by now many of you have purchased the wee Glasgow saver and have started to use the amazing savings, just a few of the vouchers and the booklet is paid already, take eating out of visiting one of the attractions.

Thank you all again for all that you are doing.

The Wee Glasgow Saver

A group of Glasgow Business men, who work at Active 8 had a brain storming session and came up with the idea of the “Wee Glasgow Saver”.  They used their contacts and twisted a few arms, all who came on board offering reductions for their services and the voucher book was born.  In total the voucher book has reductions of over £5000 of offers for you that can be used until the end of 2011.  As well as the offers contained in the book, if you register your details on their website then you are able to download a number of additional offers, some of which can be used locally.

The book can be purchased for the price of only £39.99 and is available through Calums Cabin Charity shop and Printpoint, and can be ordered online to be posted via our web site, or from www.theweesaver.com   The book is also available at all W H Smith shops in Glasgow,  Waterstones in Glasgow and Papyrus outlets throughout Glasgow.

The three main charities that Active 8 are supporting through the sales of the book are CHAS (Children’s Hospice Association Scotland), as their main beneficiary and Maggies Cancer Care Centres and Calums Cabin.

I would urge as many of you to purchase these wee books and use them as often as you can, they will save you lots on many things throughout the West of Scotland and beyond.

As well as the wee book, Active 8 have arranged a fundraising concert at the Clyde Auditorium on Thursday 5th August, featuring last years x factor contestants, including Jamie Archer, Stacey Solomon and Danyl Johnson, tickets are available from www.ticketsoup.com or from the box office on 0844 395 4000.

Thank you to all at Active 8, for chosing Calums Cabin and thank you in advance to everyone who purchases the wee glasgow saver, here’s to losts of bargains!!
